Welcome to Shortlands

For many people passing through there is little to distinguish the area to give Shortlands - including the “village” - any sense of its own identity.  We have placed “Welcome to Shortlands” banners at  three key entrances to our area in Shortlands Road (Hayes Lane end), Bromley Road (Scott’s Lane junction) and Beckenham Lane near Valley School.  Our objective is to raise awareness of where Shortlands is, strengthen the sense that it contains a thriving community and build on the sense of pride in the area.  The banners are mounted securely on lamp posts but designed to ensure that they do not represent a hazard to traffic or people and are designed to be attractive but simple and “clean”.

Commemorative Book

We are looking for material to produce a book on Shortlands over the years to celebrate the 75 years since our formation. We would like to include information on both Shortlands as it was in the past and how it is now.

Please let us know if you have any:

Old or New photographs of Shortlands or of its residents- including the schools, churches,

shops, station or any other street scene or society

Any old history information about Shortlands- as a place, societies that existed in Shortlands,

people who lived here, events that happened etc

Any old posters, leaflets, lettersthat would be of interest in providing a history of

Shortlands and of the residents that lived here.

Please contact Lydia Buttinger on 07790723783 or email LydiaButtinger@hotmail.com if you

have information that could help.
