Shortlands Residents' Association

About us

The SRA was founded in 1934.  We are non-political, run on a voluntary basis by local residents and for local residents.  We keep in touch with our members through liaison officers who deliver newsletters and collect subscriptions.  They are happy to listen to concerns and comments on what is happening in your neighbourhood.

We aim to preserve the character or our area and take up local issues that require action.  With the pressure on housing in the South-east things are changing and the rate of change is increasing.  One of the things that we do as an Association is to monitor planning proposals and raise objections to those that we consider inappropriate. In the last year we reviewed, and commented on some 80 planning applications and over 75% of appeals were dismissed.

And we form part of a network of residents’ associations that the London Borough of Bromley and others depend upon to represent local views on local issues

What do we do?

We act on behalf of all Shortlands residents.  Our key activities include:

·       Fighting undesirable development projects that change the nature of

          the area;

·       Preserving our parks and open spaces;

·       Resolving traffic, parking and road safety issues;

·       Combating vandalism and graffiti;

·       Working with local councillors, the London Borough of Bromley, and

          others who share our interests and objectives;

·       We provide newsletters and hold open meetings on topics of local  interest.
